LATEST OLDER CONTACT ME DIARYLAND
|
2005-06-24 - 4:39 p.m. The Priest motioned us to go to the side door after we got out of the car. The side door was unlocked and the inside of the truck stop was astonishing. Rather than looking like an old diner or something it was decorated to look like a house, or at least like someone lived there. Nikki wandered around the living room area looking at the photos and paintings hanging on the walls while I sank into the first comfortable piece of furniture that I came to. I kept the guitar case at my feet because I knew that Nikki would try and go through it the moment I left it alone and I could hardly blame her. I looked up at her across the room, examining a bookcase that was covered in dust, tension evident in her posture and shoulders. "Nikki, I'm sorry that I'm not being very forthcoming with information right now, but I'm kind of making this up as I go. There is no real plan at the moment." "I'm sorry that I kind of exploded in the car on the ride over." "It's cool. We're both kind of new to this hero-slash-rescuer thing. And I shouldn't have brought you into this situation without explaining everything first." She sat down next to me and said, "You didn't bring me into anything. I said you needed me to get Cyrus' attention and I'm standing by my decision to come. This isn't your fault, none of this is." "This is my fault though. If I would have stayed in Redstone then Cyrus never would have gotten into the band and hooked up with Mary and she wouldn't be in this trouble." "No, he would have gone to another city and the same thing would have happened. This has probably happened before in other places, but this time we can stop it." "Nikki is right. We can stop this and we must." The Priest set the boxes on the table in the kitchen. "For now we must rest though. The bathroom is at the end of the hall and has running water and the kitchen is fully stocked and fully functional. I will hide the car in the barn and keep watch for the night while you two sleep. We didn't even have time to argue with him, he just left us alone in this truck stop/house to take care of ourselves.
