2006-03-19 - 10:45 p.m. "The Council can't just take children away from their families because it wants to. There are laws against things like that." I said. "There are laws against normal groups kidnapping children from their families, but the Council is not a normal group. The one thing that I do not think you are grasping in this whole situation is that the Council is bigger and more pervasive than you will ever know." Doc sat down in front of me. In the whole time we've been having this discussion this is the first time I've seen him sit down and relax. Nikki had stopped crying but still had her face pressed into my shoulder as if she were hiding from Doc. I kept my arm wrapped around her as Doc explained that the Council was everywhere and in everything. The Council itself was only the heads of five families, but the magic using population was somewhere in the millions. Most had small amounts of power, like Parker, some had power like Nikki does, and very few had what Doc referred to as panic-level power. A panic-level power is someone who has so much magical ability that they frighten even the Council. My parents had panic-level power and that's why the Council took them from their families to be trained or whatever it is that they did to them. According to Doc there was a very good chance that I would end up with a panic-level power and Natalie would end up with nothing; but there was always the possibility that it would be split between the two of us and we would be on the same level as Nikki. "Nikki, I thought you said you were some kind of super-witch or something? What's the deal?" I asked as I pulled away from her. "It was the easiest way to get you to understand something that you knew nothing about. I didn't know what was going to happen but I knew it was going to be big and that I had to be here for it, so I said what I could to talk you into bringing me along." She looked me straight in the eye as she spoke. "So everything you've told me so far has been a lie of some sort?" I asked, not looking at her. "No, there has been a lot of truth in what I've said." Just then The Priest came back inside the house. "Seven, we need to move out, it is no longer safe here." "Priest, what's going on out there?" I asked him. "Oh, don't ask him; ask us." Serge said as he and his crew walked in behind The Priest.
